REPORTING TO PARENTS

The formal report for History in Years 7-9 will indicate student achievement in relation to key outcomes contained in the History syllabus.

For each of the areas of assessment outlined above, a grade from A-E will be given based on the student’s level of performance. An overall grade (A-E) will also be included in the report, which will sum up the student’s overall achievement in History.

NOTES ABOUT ASSESSMENT:

It is the responsibility of students to ensure that set assessment tasks are submitted on time. Tasks are to be handed in to the class teacher or supervising teacher during the scheduled lesson on the due date. If a student is absent through illness on the due date, the assessment must be brought to the History staffroom on the day that the student returns to school. Tasks not received by the due date will be penalised at a rate of 10% per day from the due date. No assignments will be accepted one week after the due date, and deductions are made from the raw mark. Students who fail to submit an assigned task will have a letter sent home to parents.

A request for an extension of time must be made in writing to the Head Teacher at least one week in advance. Individual teachers may not grant extensions of time. Extensions are only granted under exceptional circumstances.

If a student is unable to submit or complete a task (including an exam) on the due date because of illness or misadventure, the class teacher should be contacted as soon as possible so that alternative arrangements could be made. A medical certificate or a note from parents must be submitted, explaining the reasons for the non-completion of the task.

Cheating, plagiarism or misconduct during the performance of any part of a task / exam will result in the award of a zero mark for the whole task. If a student is under suspension from the school, special arrangements need to be made with the Deputy Principal so that tasks scheduled during class time may be completed.

The classroom teacher, and the Head Teacher if necessary, will counsel students who fail to satisfy course requirements. Parents will be notified in writing of failure to complete assigned tasks and/or lack of enthusiasm or application in class.

Further clarification about the information contained in this policy can be made by contacting the Head Teacher during school office hours on 46581110
