PORTABLE MUSIC PLAYERS – SCHOOL POLICY STATEMENT
Rationale
There are a significant number of students who bring portable music players
(iPods, Zunes, etc) to school. Whilst the school recognizes that students
enjoy listening to music quietly on their own, the school must place
teaching and learning ahead of personal enjoyment of music.
Our policy towards students with such devices includes:
· Portable music players may be used during break times (recess, lunch) and before and after school.
· Portable music players are not to be used during class times. This includes private study periods and sport.
· Students who are observed using their players in class will have the devices confiscated for the remainder of the day. They can be picked up from the Deputy Principal in charge of the students’ year at 3:25 pm.
· Students players must be kept in school bags or
pockets during class time. In other words, out of sight.
This policy is essential in order to:
· Ensure that teaching and learning in the classroom is uninterrupted.
Ensure that students accept responsibility for the care and use of their portable music players.
The school takes no responsibility for lost or damaged devices.
